HOW DOES IT FEEL TO NOT BE IN FIRST PLACE?

November 3, 2016

STOP "STRATEGIC PLANNING." START "STRATEGIC THINKING" AND "EXECUTION PLANNING."

There are only eight more Mondays in 2016. 2017 is knocking at your door. Are you ready? Strategic Planning is old school. Strategic Thinking is critical to a business' success. One of the most important ongoing meetings for long-term planning and sustainable growth is what Jim Collins calls the CEO "Council" meeting. It is a handful of senior leaders who discuss strategic ideas and do not dwell or get into operational or execution issues. This is the "Think Stage."

Next is the "Plan Stage" of the cycle, and it is more accurately termed "Execution Planning," which includes a broader group of senior and middle leaders in the company, and whose purpose is to plan and execute operationally the strategy laid out by senior leaders.

Your competitors who are leading the pack are doing strategic planning regularly. Want to move ahead of your competition? Start "Strategic Thinking" and "Execution Planning." If you're not convinced, here are five reasons why you can't afford not to do it:

1. Clarity creates focus

2. You're more likely to hit the target you set

3. Stop wasting time with the same problem

4. People problems can be solved through clear, future goals

5. If work is frustrating you, it's because you're not planning properly
